Discipleship

What is Discipleship?

Discipleship means helping believers grow spiritually.  Hebrews 6:1 "Let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity."  There is something more than just coming to know Jesus Christ in a personal relationship.  The Bible says it's maturity, becoming like Jesus Christ.  2 Peter 3:18 "Grow in grace and the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ." Ephesians 4:11-13 "God has given some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God's people for works of ministry, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all become mature like Christ."

Christian Growth / Discipleship

Our Adult ministries has various ministry opportunities within the local congregation for growth and education. Our Christian Growth team's mission is to foster these opportunities. We have more than 10 groups in addition to our Sunday morning Adult Sunday School classes which meet in the community on a regular basis to provide Bible study, and fellowship.

Call the church office: (215) 646-4129 for locations and further information.

JUMC Small Groups

Our prayer is that every member will go the extra mile and spend the extra hour each week in small group study. Whether you commit to a Sunday School class, join one of the existing small groups, or create a small group to fit your own needs as a Christian single, man, woman, parent…

Seekers Class

Jarrettown United Methodist Church was established 150 years ago when concerned Christians met together in a Sunday School Cell on the porth of the home which is directly across Limekiln Turnpike from our driveway. Sunday School Methodist Cells or Classes for adults have been the backbone of our Church ever since.

The Seekers Class seek to understand God's Will for our Lives. We meet every Sunday morning at 9:30 for fellowship and at 10:00 a lesson from the Bible is given. We are entirely Bible centered and study and quote the scriptures at every meeting.

The class is moderated by Jerry Hamilton and Bill Ackerman. Jerry has been at the helm of an Adult Sunday School Class for over 40 years and enjoys sharing God's Word with those who will hear.

Listening Prayer Group

God is endlessly communicating with people in various and creative ways.

When we pause to reflect on the narrative of our lives informed by the Scripture, guided by classic spiritual writers, and those poets and artists who see deeply, our lives are enriched with wisdom and a personal sense of peace in the presence of God.

All are invited to come to "An Open Table with God."

Please bring a journal for writing, drawing, pasting things into and a willingness to listen in community for God's guidance in your life.

Alpha

Alpha is a W.O.W. Small Group Study- An Opportunity to explore the meaning of life. The Alpha Course is a twelve-week practical introduction to the Christian faith offering answers to some key questions.  Our invitation is simply to attend the first evening – try it out – if you enjoy it, then continue on in the course.

Susanna's Sisters

Susaanna's Sisters is currently divided into two women's groups that meet at 7:15 at Jarrettown Church.

One group is reading Thrive, Don't Simply Survive: Passionately Live the Life You Didn't Plan by Karol Ladd

The other group is reading Elizabeth George's A Woman After God's Own Heart.

Contact either Pam Donachie or Susan Skinner for more information.

Adventurous Prayer

Our group is currently reading the book Woman of Wisdom, Lessons for Living From the Book of Proverbs, by Myrna Alexander.

We meet every other Thursday at 7:30 pm at Marjie Scott's home.

For more information, contact Marjie at mrjsctt@aol.com

Elohim's Flock

Our small group meets every Thursday evening for fellowship, prayer and Bible study. The small group format allows for open discussion and insights from fellow Christians. We all draw strength and comfort in sharing our relationship with God in our daily lives as well as providing support for each other. We are studying "Psalms: Folk Songs of the Bible". Our group is currently at capacity.

Seasoned Citizens

We are women who formed a group when our church studied Rick Warren’s “Forty Days of Purpose” in 2003.  Since then, we have also studied “The Purpose Driven Community” and several books. We meet in each other’s homes.  We support each other and pray for each other, our church and our world. For the past few years, our mission was to help the Cahlinks at St. Phillips Church, feeding the poor and homeless.  Since they now have enough help within their church, our new mission is to make meals for Aid For Friends.

At this time, however, our group is too large and therefore is unable to take in new members.

Men's Devotions

Men often have a different interpretation of God’s Word and of life than women.  Our MEN’S DEVOTIONS offers men a chance to fellowship together, discuss God’s Word and talk about our experiences/insights in an informal non-threatening manner.  Our study is open to all men in the church and the community.   There is no prior reading required.  We offer two different times of the week for you to consider; 7:00 AM on Saturday or 6:00 AM on Tuesday; both are held twice a month.  It is recommended that you BRING YOUR OWN COFFEE.

Saturday Sanctuary

Saturday Sanctuary meets Saturdays at 8am at Rebecca Britt's house (fall, winter, spring) and Brenda Filer's house (summer).

This 1-hour Bible study uses a form of Lectio Divina to meditate on a scripture and it's application in our lives. Max Lucado's devotions provide the group with guidance as we grow in Christian faith.

No preparation required. RSVP to Rebecca if possible. Coffee provided.
