What is Ministries?

Ministry is meeting needs with love.  The reality is everybody hurts.  Everybody has a struggle.  And part of the reason this church exists is to help meet those needs with love.  And not even just the needs of the church but the community where we know people are aching and dying.  John 13:35 "By this shall all men know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another."

Bereavement Ministry Team

"This ministry is greatly appreciated by the families and friends.  I think that we who serve find it one of the most satisfying things we do."

This ministry helps families cope with the death of a loved one at a very special time in their lives.  Often, families desire fellowship, refreshments, or a luncheon following the service.

Our ministry prepares food, sets up, serves, and cleans up so the family is able to visit with their friends and family and not to worry about any hosting details.  We usually host events in the Friendship Center, a comfortable, beautiful, home-like setting.

The only gifts you need are those of love, caring, and compassion.

Contact Carol Moffatt for more information.

Hospitality Ministry

Hospitality Hospitality Hospitality

The goal of the Hospitality Committee is to treat every visitor to our Church as a guest of Jesus Christ. Activities that help us accomplish this goal include distributing mugs to first time visitors, making telephone contacts to visitors, matching a Jarrettown Friend with recurring visitors and managing the coffee time between services. Through such actions, we seek to convey that Jarrettown United Methodist Church is a caring, active and Christ-led congregation.

Bus Ministry

We provide transportation to our members who reside at the retirement communities in our area for our regular 11:00 worship service. In addition, we provide transportation for off-site or outside Jarrettown church activities that involve the Youth Group, Vacation Bible School, Phillies games, Retreats, and other church activities or outings that could benefit from our transportation services. United Methodist Women (UMWM)

Wendy Hamilton - Coordinator, JUMC UMWM

United Methodist Women's Ministries is a lay women's organization rooted in mission whose membership is open to any women who shares its purpose. Our purpose is to know God and experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ, to develop a creative, supportive fellowship and to support local and global missions.

RACHEL CIRCLE - Wendy Hamilton, Leader

The Rachel Circle has been in existence at JUMC for almost 30 years. We (they) have been involved in many projects and ministries over the years including cooking for Aid For Friends, coordinating the Angel Tree project and assembling health kits for Church World Service. Fellowship is very important to us (Spring Tea and Christmas Tea) and we get together on a social basis often. Members come in all shapes, sizes and family configurations – all women at any age are welcome!

MARTHA CIRCLE - Joanne Formelio, Leader

Martha Circle are members of the UMW, who as a united group, are now United Methodist Women's Ministries. Our Circle meets every third Monday evening in the Friendship Center at 7p. We enjoy fellowship, bible study, serving God in many ways. We have changed through the years as some of us have grown older but we continue to include younger members which I believe helps to keep a circle strong in growth. Our main service to Jarrettown is communion, set up and clean up. We support the UMW by our pledges, help at our annual fundraisers. These go to mission outreach in our community and beyond. As a Circle we also give our money to Ingathering and World Bank. Our man projects are: Laurel House, Aid For Friends, W.O.W. dinners, Pennel School in Philadelphia, books and supplies for kids, Hurricane kits, school kits. We always take on one major project each year. God keeps us united in His love to be able to continue to serve Him as we are called to do so.

Martha Circle annually sponsors a skit at the Church Retreat. This year, 2009, we will be doing a 10th Anniversary special.

With 1,018,218 members worldwide, the United Methodist Women is the largest and strongest women's organization in the world. The UMW are committed to know God and experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ, to develop a creative and supportive fellowship and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church. Here at Jarrettown church there are four circles made up of women of all ages. The meeting days and times vary from circle to circle. There are both day and evening groups.

Each circle has a particular mission project which is their focus. Additionally, the circles work together collecting clothing for Neighborhood Services, cooking for Aid For Friends and participating in the Bazaar and Craft Show held in alternating years at Jarrettown.

If you would like to know more, please call Wendy Hamilton.

Fellowship Ministries

The Fellowship Ministries Team has one of the most enjoyable jobs in our congregation. This committee works hard, but the activities they plan are the "fun ones." Each month this group sponsors a social event. That social may be a potluck supper on clowning, a luau, the Easter egg hunt for children, the all-church picnic or the annual Christmas gathering. If you want to know more about this team or the programs they plan, contact the church.

Lay Visitation Team

The Lay Visitation Team are individuals committed to the caring outreach ministry of this congregation. Each has a group of shut-ins that they visit on a monthly basis and send cards to on special occasions. If you would like to be a part of this special group, please contact the church.

Visitation Ministry, Gerry Brooks

Caring for one another is important to us at Jarrettown UMC, and the hallmark of our visitation ministry is the love of Christ expressed through relationship.  As visitation pastor, I visit all hospitalized and homebound members and friends of our congregation, supported by our lead Pastor.  Communion, prayer and devotional times are spent with persons who are not able to join with the gathered community, tangible signs of their continued inclusion in the Body of Christ.  Auxiliary to the visitation pastor’s position are volunteers who also visit our elderly members and holiday caroling to local retirement communities.  God has used this ministry to let folks know they aren’t alone and that they are loved and valued.
